Documentary maker: Jools Gilson

Jools Gilson is a writer, choreographer, and broadcaster. She trained in dance, theatre and contemporary performance at Lancaster University, the University of Colorado at Boulder and the University of Surrey. She directed the performance production company half/angel for ten years with the composer and digital artist Richard Povall. She has written extensively for arts and academic journals.

Her work has been produced, performed and exhibited internationally, she has received bursaries and awards from the Arts Council of Ireland, Arts Council of England, Culture Ireland and others. She holds a PhD in Theatre & Performance Studies, and held lectureships at the University of Hull, Dartington College of Arts and University College Cork.

Her first radio documentary 'Los Preciosos' was a Gold Radio Winner for Best Narration at the 2011 New York Festivals.

She lives in East Cork with her husband and two children.
