Documentary maker: Brian O'Connell


Brian's work as a journalist has appeared in The Irish Times and several international publications.

In 2007, he won the John Healy National Print Award for a feature in the Irish Times on natives returning to the Aran Islands.

More recently, Brian reported from India on child trafficking, The Democratic Republic of Congo on gender violence and Mozambique on the effects of climate change.

Brian's first non-fiction book, Wasted, examined Ireland's relationship with alcohol and was published by Gill & Macmillan. It was voted number five in Joe Duffy's listeners' books of 2009.

Brian is a regular on television and radio, having co-presented The Reel Deal on RTÉ One and appearing on The Daily Show as a weekly panelist and reporter. Brian is also a regular on RTÉ Radio, most notably the Tubridy Show, The Late Debate and Weekend on One.

Brian's previous documentary for RTÉ Radio 1 ('I Could Have Danced All Night'), was recently shortlisted for a Celtic Media Award.
