33 Miles and Good Luck

A look at a famous nature trail in Clinton Valley, New Zealand. "I have come" the narrator tells us, "to capture something of the atmosphere of the Milford track and the response of the trampers who walk it."

By walkers standards, it's a modest three day stint, rising to close on four thousand feet at Mount Kinnen Pass. The travellers are mainly middle aged, including on this occasion a great grandmother, and they come from all over the world to Glade House, to sleep a night and get themselves briefed on the dangers ahead.

"One word of warning", says the guide, "don't bounce on the bridges." Then off they go, by the beautiful Clinton river.
