Ireland has a long history with faith healers and cures - a healing through spiritual means - remedies passed down through generations - We glimpse inside this hidden world, still very much alive today
Faith healing is healing through spiritual means, at least this is what believers and practitioners say. Healing comes through prayer and religious faith.
The laying of hands or simply praying for someone or something are all methods used in faith healing. Ireland has a long history with faith healers - claims that prayer, divine intervention or individual healers can cure illness have been popular throughout our history.
Miraculous recoveries have been attributed to many techniques commonly lumped together as "faith healing". There have been claims that faith healing can cure blindness, deafness, cancer, developmental disorders, arthritis, corns, skin rashes and total body paralysis. For many, it's in the realm of the unbelievable.
In 'The Cure at hand' Kevin McCann explores faith healing and the cure in Ireland. Without a scientific explanation they have their doubts. He visits the seventh son of a seventh son and meet the people who attend him. Kevin himself seeks the cure for his own medical condition.
Since time immemorial, those suffering from various ailments and illnesses have believed in ancient remedies, healing hands, the power of prayer and people gifted with 'the cure'.
This documentary glimpses inside the hidden world of healers and those that claim to have been healed.
