More Information

Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a youth mentoring programme that forms friendships between a young person and an adult volunteer.

The programme is part of Foróige. The youngsters are referred to it by teachers or social workers who have identified them as needing extra support in their lives. Perhaps it is they are living in a disadvantaged area, have family problems, have fewer older role models or are being bullied in school.

The matches then meet for at least an hour every week, for at least a year.

Together they can decide the type of activities they would like to do, whether it is shopping, watching a football match or even just having a coffee and a chat.

In this programme, Claire and Alyssa have been matched for the past six months, Ronan and Isaac have been paired for over three years.

Della Kilroy tells the story. She is a 'big sister' who has been matched with Lauren for four years.

The Curious Ear' is produced by Ronan Kelly curiousear@rte.ie
