All the Queen's Horses

Michael Curtin was born in West Clare. He was a blacksmith by trade working with iron and steel on a daily basis.

He went on to become a blacksmith to the London Metropolitan police. Amongst his many tasks at work was that of working with the police horses. Working down in the stables, he was responsible for the upkeep of their footware! One of the most prized assets of a horse are good horseshoes.

It was through this link that Michael went on to take care of police horses who were invovled in military service and through this Michael began to work with and care for Queen Elizabeth II's most beloved horse, Burmese.

An unlikely tie between West Clare and the Queen herself!
