A pretty woman steps into a boxing ring wearing a big smile and small clothes. She totters round on high-heels holding up a card bearing the number of the next round. It's the Ring Girl. But who is she? And why is she doing it?
'Ring Girls' hears the voices of women who are usually seen but not heard - their bodies looked at but their personalities ignored.
Standing in the freezing cold after a boxing event, Niall Fallon wondered if the Ring Girls had felt cold in their skimpy outfits. It was the first time he had ever thought about them as people, and now more questions started rattling around his head - What's it like to be a Ring Girl? How do you become one? And what do they do in the rest of their lives?
Niall set off on a journey around the country, and into England, to meet Irish Ring Girls. And he met them in unexpected places. Not just at boxing and cage-fighting events, but also at photo-shoots, celebrity-parties in Chelsea, - and even barber-shops!
Five of these young women offer lively and entertaining insights into the world of the Ring Girl. From college students to glamour models, from rappers to barbers - there's a lot more to these Ring Girls than meets the eye.
Narrated and produced by Niall Fallon.
Production supervision by Liam O'Brien.
