Theodore 'Dutch' Van Kirk was the navigator of the bomber plane that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima in 1945. 50 years on has he any regrets? (Broadcast 1995)
On August 6th 1945, an atomic bomb on Hiroshima changed the lives of millions forever.
The bomber plane that dropped that bomb was the 'Enola Gay' and its crew were Theodore 'Dutch' Van Kirk - Navigator; Paul Tibbits - Pilot; and Tom Ferbie - Bombardier. All three had worked together on previous expeditions to Europe.
Has time changed anything for the crew? Did they really know what they were doing? They felt it was the bomb that ended the war and despite all rumours - all the crew remained sane.
Presented and produced by Colm Keane.
