Mermaids Out of Water: Nuala Ni Dhomhnaill agus an Mhuruch

Cathal talks to Nuala Ni Dhonhnaill.

With translations by Muldoon, Dorgan McGuckian and commentary by Nic Eoin and Caoimhghin Mac Giolla Leith.

Probably the best known contemporary poet writing in the Irish language, Nuala draws upon the wealth of images available in Irish folklore in her work, and an important image in recent work has been the mermaid.

In Nuala's imagination the merpeople are very much fish out of water, symbols of cultural and personal trauma, a community in transition and denial.
