For the first time ever, the Documentary on One was granted access to record inside the confines of Cork Prison.
This documentary focuses on Noel Shine and his students who are prisoners at Cork Prison.
Noel Shine has helped hundreds of prisoners to study music.
Some of them have learned to write record and perform their own songs. It is part of the overall education programme on offer in Irish prisons, but what purpose does it serve and does music have the power to change people for the better?
Tim Desmond follows Noel into Cork Prison and hears from prisoners who are currently studying music while serving their sentences and hears them play and sing.
We also meet former student, Ian, who is in recovery from a gambling addiction which led to his prison sentence.
First broadcast 15th August 2009.
Produced by Tim Desmond
Production Supervision by Liam O'Brien
