Martin Shanahan joined Damien in Kinsale to cook some fish on the BBQ for him and all the punters who had joined them to listen to todays programme.
Damien was in Kinsale where the International Federation of Disabled Sailing’s World Championships takes place in the next week. Now this is the first international competition to take place since the sailing event at the Paralymic Games last year in London. More than 120 competitors will take to the water here in Kinsale, and one of those people is John Twomey, a legend in Irish sailing and of Kinsale Yacht club – and one of the movers and shakers who got this huge event to Kinsale. Damien spoke to John yesterday about his accident that paralysed as a teenager.
In less than two years’ time, milk quotas will be abolished throughout Europe allowing farmers to milk as much as they want for the first time in thirty years. For the past couple of years Irish dairy farmers have been gearing up for this and preparations continue apace for this dairy revolution. Damien spoke to Dr Edmond Harty who won the Ernest and Young Entrepreneur of the year award last year. Edmund is CEO of Dairymaster, a company founded by his Dad, Ned, thirty five years ago.
Well now back to the sailors, and the Irish challenge is robust this year at the IFDS World Championships here in Kinsale and Damien got to speak to some of them including Kevin Dowling, Georgina Griffin, Thomas Hosford & Sam Moynihan.
Damien O'Reilly and the CountryWide team feature the events, people and happenings that bring colour and life to communities, towns and villages across the country
