RTÉ Radio 1 Comedy Showhouse

Ireland’s live radio comedy festival – is back for a second time at the Project Arts Centre for a six-night run from Monday, May 29th to June 3rd with 14 new shows, all of which will be broadcast on RTÉ Radio 1.

This unique broadcast comedy event is majority funded by the Broadcast Authority of Ireland.

Monday, May 29th, 8pm (€10) – Colm O’Regan Wants A Word 

The opening night of the Comedy Showhouse features two brand new shows of the 2016 PPI award-winning show for Best Radio Comedy. The Cork born writer and comedian Colm O’Regan (with comedy actors Tara Flynn and Paul Tylak plus other special guests) explores how we Irish use, abuse and amuse ourselves with the English language in our everyday lives. A unique and smart radio comedy show.

Tuesday, May 30th, 8pm (€10) – Hypothetical

Devised by Michael Downey, this brand new comedy series Hypothetical is presented by Barry Murphy (Apres Match) along with comedy star guests Joe Rooney, Colum McDonnell, Tara Flynn and Chris Kent.

Wednesday, May 31st, 8pm (€10) – The Waiting Room               

A brand new sketch comedy from award-winning writer Fiona Looney (Dandelions, Callan’s Kicks) and starring a stellar cast including Caitriona Ennis, Rose Henderson and Deirdre O’Kane.

Thursday, June 1st, 6pm  (€5) – HaHa Land!

Featuring a comedy and music mash-up, HaHa Land! with host Paddy Cullivan (Late Late Show band and the Camembert Quartet) explores melody and laughs with comedy stars Fred Cooke (the Tommy Tiernan TV Show), Tara Flynn (Ex-Nuala) and Paul Woodful (aka Ding Dong Denny O’Reilly). Warning – there may be live banter and songs.

Thursday, June 1st, 8pm (€10) – Don’t Quote Me! 

The comedy panel show is hosted by Sean Hughes (Perrier winner, BBC’s Buzzcocks and Channel 4’s Sean’s Show). Tonight two episodes will be recorded and will star Eleanor Tiernan, Karl Spain, Fiona Looney and Fred Cooke.

Friday, June 2nd, 6pm (€5) – Funny Girl

Special 6pm showing. If you have an ambition to write comedy then this the show is for you. Host Katherine Lynch (Dancing with Stars and Wagon’s Den) explores new Irish female comedy on stage, radio and screen with Stefanie Preissner (RTÉ’s Can’t Cope Won’t Cope), Brona C Titley (Channel 4’s Eight Out of Ten Cats) and Alison Spittle (stand up star and new RTÉ 2 series).

Friday, June 2nd, 8pm (€10) – Don’t Quote Me!

The comedy panel show is hosted by Sean Hughes (Perrier winner, BBC’s Buzzcocks and Channel 4’s Sean’s Show) along with stars of Irish comedy and broadcasting including Dave Fanning, Eleanor Tiernan, Fiona Looney, Katherine Lynch and more. Two episodes will be recorded this evening.

COMEDY SHOWHOUSE HOUR is produced by Sideline Productions in association with and The Broadcast Authority of Ireland for RTÉ Radio 1.

  • For various reasons outside our control some of the shows and acts may change.
  • Doors open 30 minutes before each show time and there is no admittance once the shows start recording.
  • The 6pm shows are 45 minutes long and all 8pm performances will feature two 45 minute shows with an interval.

Ha Ha Land

A panel discussion on musical comedy recorded live as part of Comedy Showhouse. Three of our foremost exponents of the genre: Paul Woodfull (Ding Dong Denny O'Reilly, The Joshua Trio), Tara Flynn (The Nualas, Irish Pictorial Weekly) and Fred Cooke (Republic of Telly) join host Paddy Cullivan.  Expect musical mayhem, improvised songs and some classic clips.
