The second of two programmes recorded in Glór in Ennis recently and hosted by Kieran Hanrahan to honour the contribution of Ciarán Mac Mathúna to the development of Irish traditional music during his fifty years in broadcasting. Music and song from The Kilfenora Ceili Band, Liam O Flynn, Paddy Glackin, Paddy Moloney, Sean Keane, Matt Molloy, Cór Cúl Aodha. Ciarán himself says a few words also.

Tonight's programme was recorded in Glór in Ennis, Co. Clare in November. A group of Ireland's leading traditional musicians and singers gathered to pay tribute to Ciarán, who retired from RTE this year, after fifty years in broadcasting. Among those taking part, with their personal tributes are Paddy Canny, Peadar O Riada, the Creahan sisters, Donal O Connor, the Tulla Ceili Band and many more. Hosted by Kieran Hanrahan

Tonight's programme features the Limerick launch of Tadhg Maher's CD from Dolans on the Dock road in Limerick. Tadhg, from the border of Tipperary and Offaly has gathered a group of fellow students from UL for the occasion. This should be a lively night on Ceili House.

On tonight's programme we feature the hugely talented trad. group... " Na Mothucháin" from Co. Meath and Dublin. All aged between 15 and 19 they're a group of exceptionally talented musicians and singers who won the coveted Siansa competition for a second time this year. The competition is sponsored by RTE RnaG and Gael Linn. The programme was recorded at the Cobblestone in Dublin.

Tonight's Ceili House comes from Gorey Co. Wexford and features a local Ceili Band, revived after many years. Uniquely, it features three generations of the Fitzpatrick family.

Ceoltóirí na Mainistreach, a new céilí band from Ennis, Co. Clare were formed by a group of very talented musicians from the Ennis area with a lot of experience. They first came together for the Clare fleadh and went from there to Munster and on to the All Ireland competition in Letterkenny. Kieran meets the band at the Ennis Trad Festival. Lively !!!

Cúl na Sméar Comhaltas in Co. Waterford is the focus of tonight's Céilí House. The programme was recorded in the local community hall and features a group of excellent musicians and singers from the area.

On tonight's Céilí House we meet the all female traditional group Liadán. The band have just released their debut CD and first played on Céilí House in UL two years ago. The members incluse Sarah Jane Woods, Elaine Cormican, Síle Denvir, Deirdre Chawke,Claire Dolan and Valerie Casey.

Tonight's Ceili House features the "Ceolchoirm an Ard ollaimh agus na gCeannróidhe" in an Grianán in Letterkenny. The concert was recorded at the recent Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann with music and song from Kathleen Nesbitt, John Brady, Peter Carberry, Mona Ruddy Lennon, Antoin McGabhann and many more.

The second of two programmes from the All Ireland senior Ceili Band competition in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, featuring the remaining five competitors and the result. The big question of the weekend will be answered. Will the Naomh Padraig Ceili Band retain their title and win the coveted Three-in-row? All is revealed on tonight's action packed programme.

The All Ireland senior Ceili Band competition is featured on tonight's Ceili House. It's the first of two programmes from the final at the Letterkenny Institute of Technology. Six of the eleven finalists from the four provinces, Scotland and England take to the stage in front of an expectant audience of around two thousand. There's excitement and tension in the air and a wealth of powerful music.

Tonight's Ceili House comes from Cultúrlann na nEireann in Monkstown, Co. Dublin. On the weekend when musicians, singers and dancers put the final touches to the Echoes of Erin show which sets out on a tour of the US next week, Ceili House gets a sneak preview of the performance with musical director and flute player Siobhan Ni Chonnaráin.

The National and world ploughing championships are on in Grangeford, Tullow, Co. Carlow. Ceili House meets a group of local musicians from the Carlow area at the championships and finds out a little about one of the biggest rural events of the year.

It's the big weekend for Gaelic football fans in Dublin with the All Ireland final tomorrow. Ceili House meets some of the musicians and singers from the participating counties in the big game. There's no shortage of opinion about the match and RTE radio's gaelic games correspondent Brian Carty is on hand for expert analysis.

Murty Browne's is the name of a local establishment in Tullycrine, Kilrush Co. Clare. It holds a regular session of music and song and is owned by Clare hurling manager Anthony Daly. We meet the local musicians and singers who play there, including renowned accordion player Conor Keane and flute player Bill McNamara.

On tonight's programme we pay tribute to the late Fr. PJ Kelly who died recently. A native of Woodford Co. Galway, Fr. PJ wrote some fine tunes during his lifetime and they were recorded by many including The Chieftains, De Dannan and the Kilfenora Ceili Band. He spent many years on the missions in Fiji and New Zealand. On 29th Feb. 1999 Fr. Kelly joined Kieran in studio to talk about his life and times. He also played a few tunes with box player Nigel Davey and on tonight's Ceili House we hear some excerpts from that programme.

Ceili House joins the Craobh Sean Treacy CCE in Dublin for tonight's programme. A group of past and present members gather to pay tribute to the memory of the late Donncha O Muineachain who was himself a longtime member of the branch. Accordeon player Liam Purcell leads the band which includes Sligo great John Regan.

Ceili House returns to the Tullyargan Mill in Buncrana, Co. Donegal tonight for another exciting night of Donegal music and song. Fiddler Liz Doherty has lined up a wonderful group of musicians and singers to herald the upcoming Ar Ais festival of culture which takes place in Buncrana at the end of March.

Tonight's Ceili House is the first of two from the Donegal town of Buncrana. A host of local musicians and singers gather to pay tribute to the legendary Donegal fiddler Dinny McLaughlin. Dinny himself joins in the fun in what should be a lively night. The venue is the Tullyarvan Mill.

Ceili House broadcasts from the Ramor theatre in Virginia Co. Cavan. Cavan's finest will be there to unveil details of this year's Nyah festival which runs in the county for the next month or so. Accordeon player Martin Donoghue plays a few tunes from his forthcoming CD. Michael Rooney and June McCormack make a guest appearance.

On tonight's Ceili House we get a first chance to hear the newest group in traditional music, Crinniú. There's also news about the upcoming Corofin trad festival where the band will make its Clare Debut. The venue is Corofin's intimate Teach Cheoil.

On tonight's Céilí House, Kieran returns to the Grand Hotel in Fermoy Co. Cork to meet Jimmy Morrison and the group of musicians who teach the young people of the area. With Ernestine Healy on concertina, Geraldine O Callaghan on fiddle, Jimmy Morrison on Uileann Pipes, Mick Cummins singing a couple of songs and a selection of tunes from the Fermoy Ceili Band who won the under 15 All Ireland title at last year's Fleadh in Letterkenny.

Céilí House returns to the home of Antoin and Bernie McGabhann in Baltrasna, Co. Meath for their annual house dance. A tradition at this stage, expect a great atmosphere as upwards of 40 musicians gather in the front room with a little space for the set dancers and singers. There's chat too and excitement as 2006 gets off to a lively start on Céilí House.
