The Book on One is a celebration of writing from all over the world, with five 15-minute excerpts from a single book broadcast each week.

BOOK ON ONE 24 - Friday 28 April 2017 is a selection of the shortlisted stories from The RTÉ Radio Short Story Competition in memory of Francis Mac Manus 2016 including the prize-winning stories The Speed of light and how It Cannot Help us by Chris Connolly read by Ingrid Craigie, An Spidéal Road by Lisa Frank read by Andrew Bennett  and Chalk and Cheese by Mark Evans read by Patrick Dawson

The Book on One for Monday 10 - Friday 14 April 2017 is Seacht mBua an Éirí Amach / Seven Virtues of The Rising, a short story collection by Pádraic Ó Conaire. The stories deal with how The Rising intervenes in the ordinary lives of its characters….The excerpt from the book are read by its translator into English, Diarmuid de Faoite. The Irish /English bi-lingual book is published by Arlen House.

'The Bottle Factory Outing' by Beryl Bainbridge

Beryl Bainbridge’s 1974 novel centres on two very different women – shy Brenda and outspoken Freda – who work in an Italian-run wine-bottling factory and share a bedsit. When Freda decides to organise a work outing for all the factory employees, nothing will ever be the same.
