Arts Tonight

On this week’s Arts Tonight, two artists and their way of seeing: artist Dorothy Cross and her new exhibition “Connemara”, and poet Vona Groarke who reads from her new collection “X” and discusses her poetry and life with Vincent Woods.

Vincent Woods joins Dorothy Cross at the RHA in Ely Place in Dublin to discuss the collection called “Connemara”; it first opened late last year at the Turner Contemporary in Margate in England.

Cross – who lives in Connemara – brings the area and its landscapes to the exhibition through objects that are strange and surreal yet familiar, as rich and unexpected as many of the people from the region.

In part two, Manchester-based Irish poet Vona Groarke talks about making poetry and her new collection “X” which is launched on Tuesday next, March 25th, in the Little Museum of Dublin.

The collection, pubished by the Gallery Press, takes one of the marvelously adaptable and sinuous letters of the alphabet, a letter that’s also a rather beautiful and primal shape.
