The Abbey: The First 100 Years - RealAudio On 27 December 1904, Ireland's National Theatre first opened its doors to the public. In the intervening years The Abbey Theatre has survived fires, riots, relocation, rebuilding, artistic differences and controversies of all kinds while presenting 740 new plays. The Abbey's former artistic director, Christopher Fitz-Simon, has spent close on two years putting together a history of the theatre's first century. He joins us today.
