Very Rare Swan
Eric Dempsey sent in this photo of an immature swan that is a hybrid between a Mute Swan (Richard Collins' birds) and a Whooper Swan. This is a very unusual occurence... in 30 years he has never seen one and only knows of one other in the wild seen in Dundalk some years ago.
This is one of two birds present at Lough Aderra, east Cork. They are with the Mute Swans and, although are coming to bread... they tend to stay a little further away than the Mute Swans... perhaps showing the instincts of the Whooper Swan side of the family!!
