The Island Landscape
RTÉ Television, in association with Mooney, is currently producing a major new documentary series on the history of the Irish landscape. The series will tell the story of how our landscape was created after the last major climatic event – the end of the last Ice Age, over ten thousand years ago.
And we want your help! Would you like to contribute video towards the TV series? Click here to find out what we're looking for!
On last Thursday's programme from the Hawk's Well Theatre in Sligo, Brian Kennedy mentioned receiving a hurley from Gerry Adams, that he now keeps under his bed; today, Derek received a fabulous hurley from Kane Laser Personalised Products...
Changing Of The Guard
To anyone who has ever visited London, going to see the Changing Of The Guard at Buckingham Palace is one of the must-do activities. And now a similar ceremony may be on the cards for Dublin.
Independent TD Finian McGrath has proposed that members of the Irish Armed Forces be deployed for a Ceremonial Guard at The Garden of Remembrance on Parnell Square.
He tells us why, as Brenda meets people visiting the Garden today to find out what they think of the idea... And Derek talks to Sinéad Renshaw about the Wagah Border Crossing Ceremony on the Pakistani-India border - to see Michael Palin's clip of that ceremony, click here.
We live in a world where many people feel powerless in the face of control from the huge, faceless institutions. Many people, unfortunately, have given up on the idea that individuals, fighting for a single cause, can make a real difference to people's lives. Producer Olan McGowan is in studio with a tale of hope thought - the tale of a man called Sir Ludwig Guttman. Each and every one of the Irish Paralympic team members - and in fact, every Paralympic participant worldwide - owes a huge debt to this particular visionary - Olan tells us why...
Have you ever wanted to just get away from it all, try out a new life, move somewhere different, have new experiences? Well, what’s holding you back? Most likely it’s money. How could you afford this change?
Well what if we were to tell you that there is a website where you can advertise yourself as a “house-sitter” – try out a new place for a little while, at little or no cost to you?
It came to our attention this afternoon. It’s called MindMyHouse.com and it allows people to house-sit in unusual places for maybe a week, maybe a month, or maybe indefinitely! Mooney's newly-engaged reporter Katriona McFadden has been finding out about it... For more information, visit www.mindmyhouse.com.
