BirdWatch Ireland's Bird Atlas
There’s no doubt about it but Birdwatch Ireland and their legions of volunteers spend an awful lot of their free time counting birds. A four year survey – or stocktake if you like - of the country’s birds has just finished and the result will be published in a book that’s known as a "Bird Atlas". Dick Coombes is Countryside Bird Survey Co-Ordinator with Birdwatch Ireland, and he talks us through this massive tome, that is happens every twenty years, and is four years in the making... For more information about the Atlas, click here.
Beautiful Birdsong!
The psychological impact of animals on human mood has long been taken for granted. We assume that the sound of birds in the morning is something that cheers us up! But one PhD student in the United Kingdom has decided that assumption is not good enough, and she wants to prove the fact scientifically. Her name is Eleanor Ratcliffe, she is at the Department of Psychology in the University of Surrey, England, and she joins Olan by phone to explain how she intends to prove this!
