The RAAP | RTÉ Breakthrough Bursary 2012 is a series of bursaries awarded to emerging musical performers across a wide range of genres. RTÉ and RAAP want to help emerging artists by giving them the chance to break through to the next level of their musical career. A total bursary of ¤24,500 was available to the winning entries. This was broken down into four categories with ¤5,000 being awarded to each of the winners. In addition, each of the nine runner-up acts received a bursary of ¤500.
The prize was awarded to the best performers. The Breakthrough Bursary is intended to highlight musicians that display musical and technical skill along with an ability that appeals to an audience as they shine in their overall presentation and performance. While entrants did not necessarily need to submit an original composition, marks were awarded for originality, creativity and the musical arrangement as well as to the level of attention paid to the production of their entry and the written submission that accompanied the entry.
The RAAP | RTÉ Breakthrough Bursary 2012 shortlist was unveiled across RTÉ Radio's four FM stations on Monday 17, Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 September. Each shortlisted entry was given the opportunity to perform live on a flagship radio programme across one of four radio stations: RTÉ Radio 1, RTÉ 2fm, RTÉ lyric fm or RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.
Please see Terms and Conditions for specific requirements for entries in each category.
