RTÉ’s music entertainment series The Hit, broadcast live from The O2 Dublin, gives unknown songwriters a chance to pitch their song and have chart success with an established music star.
Over the last five weeks The Hit, presented by Nicky Byrne and Aidan Power, has seen thirty songwriters all battle it out to have their songs chosen by well known Irish artists. These artists have then transformed these unknown original songs and released them into the charts. Along with some serious airplay these artists competed to see who could get the highest Irish Chart position and therefore the biggest Hit for that week.
The final episode of the series sees the five artists that charted the highest over the weeks return to The O2 for a spectacular live event where they will perform their chosen song once again, but this time alongside the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. This live show gives the viewer the opportunity to vote on their favourite song from the series and choose the Ultimate Hit.
As well as having a chart topping song on their CV the writer of the Ultimate Hit will receive the Domino’s Songwriting Bursary of €20,000 which will help them on their way to pursue their songwriting career.
