The incomparable Ute Lemper
Ute Lemper is back with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra after a 2007 debut hailed as 'brilliant, stunning and totally captivating' (Irish Independent). Lemper, who performed in LA yesterday to mark the fall of the Berlin Wall, will sing sultry Berlin cabaret and works by Brecht and Weill as well as music by Gershwin, Van Morrison and others. Having lived there in the 1980s, she remembers the animation and progressiveness of West Berlin with its theatres, jazz clubs and great underground culture, as against the greyness of the east, with long lines in front of the stores, Coca Cola only available to privileged party members, and little Trabbi cars everywhere. Read her memories of the period and of the change after the Wall came down. Book to hear her on Tuesday 1 December, National Concert Hall, as part of the Signature Series.
