Smetana Vltava from Má vlast
Dvorák Cello Concerto in B minor, Op.104
David Cohen cello
David Jones conductor
A 90 minute concert
The acclaimed young, charismatic cellist David Cohen has been described as 'magnificent' (Gramophone), 'exceptionally gifted' (New York Stereo Review) and a cellist who 'follows in the footsteps of Jacqueline Du Pré' (Muso). His performance of the lyrical Dvorák cello concerto is definitely one to look forward to.
Before this, hear Vltava, perhaps the most widely beloved of all Smetana's orchestral works, his sparkling and uplifting overture to his most popular opera The Bartered Bride and Kodály's early masterwork Summer Evening, with its beautiful folk-styled melodies.
