PAPA HAYDN
Mahler evokes the agonies of unrequited love in the expressive Songs of a Wayfarer, performed by mezzo-soprano Jane Irwin.
Schubert and Haydn provide the comfort and joy. The buoyant charm and melodic richness of Schubert's 5th to start, and - to launch the Haydn celebrations in his 200th anniversary year - the last of his remarkable outpouring of symphonies, full of his trademark humour, ingenuity and personality.
