The safefood Operation Transformation roadshow, which will visit five locations across the island in January and February.

26th January Crescent Shopping Centre, Limerick
2nd February Erneside Shopping Centre, Enniskillen

The safefood roadshow will provide practical healthy eating advice, tips on being active and motivation for people looking to kick start their own transformation. The roadshow will visit Cork, Limerick, Enniskillen, Newbridge and Blanchardstown.

The aim of the roadshow is to help people to actually get involved in healthy eating and physical activity in a fun, interactive and engaging way. safefood experts will be on hand to provide practical advice on topics like portion sizes, calorie swaps and healthy eating for long-term weight loss and there will be games, quizzes and much more. Dieticians from the Irish Nutrition & Dietetic Institute (INDI) are lending their support at venues too. Also on the roadshow menu is the opportunity to take part in a free workout with the programme’s very own fitness expert, Karl Henry, and you can meet one of the leaders featured on Operation Transformation.

“The annual safefood sponsored Operation Transformation has really become a January landmark and our roadshow makes it all the more local. The emphasis on portion sizes, and being active is key to long-term weight loss”, commented Dr Cliodhna Foley-Nolan, Director, Human Health and Nutrition, safefood. “With 2 in every 3 people currently overweight, the example of the participants in the programme, their supporters and groups around the island are an inspiration in tackling what is a serious public health issue and I would encourage everyone to come along, get some really useful advice and have some fun too!”

“The safefood roadshow is a great way to involve even more people across the island in Operation Transformation. We want people to come along to their local roadshow,”  said personal trainer and fitness expert Karl Henry. “I’ll be running ‘gentle’ group workout sessions suitable for anyone to join at each location and on hand to chat to people about becoming more active.  Nothing like a spot of exercise to give you more energy for shopping and becoming more active generally!”

For those following Operation Transformation, there will be helpful resources available on safefood’s website safefood.eu and Facebook page facebook.com/safefood.eu as well as on www.rte.ie/ot.
