RTÉ announces tendering process for appointment of String Quartet

RTÉ today initiated the process through which it will appoint a String Quartet for a three year term beginning in Quarter 1, 2014. In line with RTÉ policy, a public tendering process has been put in place and it is hoped that the String Quartet contract will be awarded in August 2013.

Through this process, RTÉ, Ireland's public service media organisation, wishes to source an innovative ensemble which has the ability to develop opportunities through a diverse range of activities including concerts, broadcasts, recordings, educational and community workshops, multi-media, digital and social media initiatives at local and national levels.

Speaking of today's announcement, Séamus Crimmins, Executive Director, RTÉ Orchestras, Quartet & Choirs said: "I welcome this renewed commitment by RTÉ in its role as a leading provider of chamber music in Ireland. Notwithstanding severe financial challenges, RTÉ wishes to renew its commitment to the string quartet medium for 2014-2016 through an imaginative programme of concerts, broadcasts, educational and community workshops, digital, multimedia and social media initiatives. I hope that this will be seen as a significant opportunity for an ensemble which seeks a creative three year relationship with Ireland's public service media organisation"
