Three magnificent pieces announced for our 2012/13 Season!
The Phil's 2012/13 season starts on Friday 19 October 2012 at 8pm in the NCH, with a performance of Verdi's rarely heard Four Sacred Pieces. The culmination of RTÉ Big Music Week (October 15-21), it features the choir in various combinations including an unaccompanied four -part women's chorus and an exhilarating final movement for double four-part chorus and orchestra. It is a serene yet exhilarating piece, showcasing the choir and makes a fitting start to newly appointed Mark Hindley's tenure as chorus master. The choir will be conducted for the first time by Kenneth Montgomery and accompanied by the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra.
The choir members will spend the next few months preparing two choral classics, a performance of Beethoven's epic Ninth Symphony, under conductor Gerhard Markson's familiar baton on Friday 25 January 2013 , 8pm in the NCH, and the ebullient and joyous Gloria by Poulenc on Friday May 3 when we welcome the return of Pascal Rophè to direct the Phil and the RTÉ NSO, also in the NCH at 8pm. Soloists for these concerts include Irish tenor Robin Tritschler (Beethoven) and the popular soprano Mairéad Buike (Poulenc).
We hope you will join with us in what will be another wonderful year of choral music to lift the spirits and bring joy to the weary heart!
