Christmas with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra
Let's face it, Christmas has well and truely arrived. The silly season just wouldn't be the same without bucket loads of music. This year the RTÉ Concert Orchestra has a month jam-packed with everything you need to get you and the family in the festive spirit. Cinema Choral Classics at Christmas (Fri. Dec. 6th), features music and singing from all your favourite seasonal films like Home Alone, Miracle on 34th Street, A Christmas Carol and more. Sunday Miscellany Live at Christmas (Tue. Dec. 10th) this year welcomes Mary Coughlan, Maeve Higgins, Niall O'Sullivan to name but a tiny few. The Wizard of Oz screening with live score (Sat. Dec. 14th) is always a favourite so we have two shows - matinee and evening. Mooney Tunes sold out in record time at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre this year. If you miss all of these, you can enjoy the RTÉ Concert Orchestra from in front of your own fire on Carols from the Castle, Christmas Eve, RTÉ One or 2.30pm Christmas Day on RTÉ Two. Mooney Tunes and Sunday Miscellany will also air over the holidays on RTÉ Radio 1.
New Year's Eve Gala Concert with Jacqui Dankworth
She is considered to be 'one of the classiest acts in British jazz singing' (The Guardian) - hardly surprising with John Dankworth and Cleo Laine as parents. The RTÉ Concert Orchestra is delighted to welcome Jacqui Dankworth as this year's New Year's Eve Gala guest artist. On Tuesday December 31st (10pm), Jacqui will bring her own inimitable style to a selection of popular songs from musicals and film soundtracks including On My Own (Les Misérables), Almost Like Being in Love (Brigadoon), Windmills of Your Mind (The Thomas Crown Affair), Speak Softly Love (The Godfather), Nature Boy (Moulin Rouge) and more. As usual the ticket price includes a glass of bubbly as we usher in the New Year in style. More information.Book Now

RTÉ CO second place in World's Favourite Orchestra vote!
The RTÉ Concert Orchestra has taken a remarkable second place in an online poll to find the World's Favourite Orchestra on classical music website bachtrack.com. The winning orchestra was the world-renowned Cleveland Orchestra, which took 20.3% of the vote. The RTÉ Concert Orchestra's 12.4% makes the RTÉ CO the highest-placed orchestra in Europe, ahead of some of the biggest and most prestigious names in the business, among them the Berlin Philharmonic (3rd place) and London Symphony Orchestra (4th place). When word went out ten days ago that the RTÉ CO was in 26th place, a flood of votes then brought the orchestra to 7th place, and on the latest update - last Friday - the RTÉ CO had moved up to 4th. The final result, and its jump of another two places, makes the RTÉ Concert Orchestra 'Europe's Favourite Orchestra'! Read more
