RHONA CLARKE Where the clouds go
Rhona Clarke Where the clouds go (2005) [5']
Where the Clouds Go was composed for the Horizons series of concerts in 2006. Also on that programme was Takemitsu's Towards the Sea, an intriguing and influential work in which spare use of orchestral forces tauntingly describe nature. Where The Clouds Go moves from moment to moment in a dreamlike way, fragments of melodic line appearing and disappearing again. The use of mallet instruments in the percussion avoids any harsh sounds - these are small white clouds rather than the heavy thunderous kind. The combination of flute and harp gives a distinctly French flavour.
