Jonathan Nangle now is night come quietly (2010) [8'] RTÉ commission. World premiere.

now is night come quietly was commissioned by RTÉ in 2010 under the Composer-in-Residence, young composer mentoring scheme.

It was recorded by the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra under Gavin Maloney in May 2010 and received its premiere broadcast in August of the same year on RTÉ Lyric FM's Nova with Bernard Clarke. It was subsequently selected as part of the Irish submission to the 58th International Rostrum of Composers in Vienna 2011 and as a result of this has received broadcasts throughout Europe and Australasia.

The title of the work is taken from 'A Small Book of Songs' by the Irish Poet Billy Mills and is an evocation for orchestra of diminishing daylight's diminuendo into darkness.
