This is Mary's first year on the Mentoring Scheme
Mary in her own words...
I am a 22-year-old trombonist and have just completed a B.A. in Music Performance at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. Originally from Glenamaddy, Co. Galway, I started my music education on piano with Mary-Jo Fitzpatrick. At the age of 10 I took up trombone at the East Galway School of Music and studied with John Fleming.
When I was 16 I joined the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland and the Irish Youth Wind Ensemble. I have studied under Stephen Mathieson, Principal Trombone with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, at the RIAM and am currently studying part-time with Jon Clifford at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama.
In 2010, at the Italian Brass Week, I attended masterclasses and concerts by Joseph Alessi, Andrea Conti, Gabriele Malloggi and Daniele Morandini. Last spring I was the recipient of the Yamaha Brass Bursary at the ESB Feis Ceoil. During my fourth year of the degree, I performed the Grondahl Trombone Concerto with the Dublin Symphony Orchestra in the NCH and in St Bartolomew's Church, Ballsbridge.
