Hugh Murray, violin
This is Hugh's second year on the Mentoring Scheme
Hugh in his own words...
I am a 23-year-old violinist from Cork and in my final year of
study for a B.Mus. Degree in the CIT Cork School of Music. I am currently studying with Ruxandra Colan-Petcu.
Recent awards include winning the CSM Senior Concerto Competition, highest placed violinist in the CSM Senior Recital Competition, and reaching the final of the Yamaha Foundation Scholarship.
I have been leader of a number of ensembles, including the Cork Youth Orchestra, Cork Youth Chamber Orchestra and the CSM Mozart Players, and I am the current leader of the CSM Symphony Orchestra.
In April 2011 I performed the Sibelius Violin Concerto in a series of three concerts with the CSM SO. I also have a keen interest in chamber music and have studied with Dr Hugh Maguire, Marc Danel, Dora Schwarzberg and members of the Prometeo and Kamus quartets.
In July 2011, I led the Kappa Quartet playing Schubert's 'Death and the Maiden' at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival. This is my second year participating in the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra Mentoring Scheme for Advanced Young Musicians, having performed Respighi and Bartók with the RTÉ NSO in November 2010.
