Macdara Ó Seireadáin biography
Macdara Ó Seireadáin is a native of Dublin, and a past pupil of Scoil Naithí and the High School, Rathgar. Macdara is at present a final year Masters student studying clarinet with Johannes Peitz in the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover. Macdara is a First Class Honours graduate of the Royal Irish Academy of Music where he was studied with John Finucane, where he was also awarded the Briscoe Cup for outstanding student of the year in 2008.
In October 2010 Macdara won the inaugural Irish Freemasons Young Musician of the Year competition and went on to perform at the 'John O' Conor and Friends' International Concert Series performance in the National Concert Hall in May 2011. He appeared as soloist with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra in a performance of the Stanford clarinet concerto in August 2011 and is a multiple prizewinner at the Feis Ceoil, including the McCullough Cup in 2005.
Macdara has deputised with RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, RTÉ Concert Orchestra, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and the Staatsoper Hannover, and is currently a member of Kammersymphonie Hannover.
A keen chamber musician, he has performed with John O'Conor, Ailish Tynan, Johannes Peitz, Sharon Kam and Solenne Paidassi amongst others.
Macdara wishes to publicly acknowledge the generous financial support of the Arts Council who awarded him a Travel and Training Bursary in both 2010 and 2011 and also that of the Bank of Ireland who selected him as a Millennium Scholar in 2008.
