Lorraine Melia and Wendy Thiabult
Lorraine Melia, originally from Glasnevin and now living in Castleknock, Dublin, will perform in City Hall, Cork on Friday 7 June. Lorraine works in the home. She is married to Sean and they have 4 children ranging in age from 6 to 18. For Lorraine, the chance to sing with the RTÉ NSO and the three sopranos 'will be a dream come true'. All through her school and teenage years her 'life was singing' before she did the 'sensible thing' and took a job in the Civil Service. Marriage and motherhood followed. She says: 'I lost my voice to motherhood and in losing my voice I lost my confidence.' Now, she 'would love an opportunity to sing again, to make my family proud and to find myself again.'
Wendy Thibault, originally from Glencullen and now living in Coolboy, Tinahely Co Wicklow, performing in WIT College Hall, Waterford on Saturday 8 June. Wendy works in the home. She is married to Maurice and has 5 children ranging in age from 8 to 18. She sings in her local church choir and with Carnew Musical Society. Wendy has never had the opportunity to sing on her own nor has she had any formal vocal training. She 'wants to prove' to herself and to her 5 boys - ranging in age from 8-18 - that she 'is capable of doing more than just driving them to matches and for them to be proud and to say "that's my Mam up there"'
