Concertino for Flute and Strings
Note by the composer
Concertino for Flute and Strings
Originally a Sonatina for Flute and Piano, this piece was composed in 1978 for James Galway. In 1994, I orchestrated it for solo flute and string orchestra at the invitation of BBC Northern Ireland as part of its celebrations marking seventy years broadcasting from the province. Set in three short movements, the concertino is light and airy, linked by a single thematic germ which reappears throughout the piece.
