Programme note
This work was composed in 1993 to a commission from John Finucane, who conducted the first performance with the Dublin Orchestras for Young Players in Scoil Naithí, Ballinteer, in March 1994. Using an orchestra of Beethovenian proportions, it is in three contrasting sections. The outer ones are extravert and almost minimalist, framing a more introverted elegy for my father (d. 1991).
