FANTASY FOLK MUSIC AND PURE COLD WATER
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
SINGING SIBLINGS JOHANNA RUSANEN-KARTANO AND VILLE RUSANEN JOIN FORCES WITH FELLOW FINNS THE POLYTECH CHOIR AND PRINCIPAL GUEST CONDUCTOR HANNU LINTU, 'a dynamic figure on the rostrum'(Irish Independent). Making extensive use of Finnish folk tunes, Kullervo and Tapiola revel in all the romantic verve and dramatic impact of a modern film soundtrack. Sibelius pours what he called 'the pure cold water' of his music to bewitching effect: Kullervo churning and boiling with mysterious incantations; Tapiola, the composer's last major work, a powerful evocation of mythic landscapes.
