GLORY TO GOD AND RUGBY
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
With its compelling blend of French and German influences, Franck's only symphony contributed to a revival of the form in his native France in the late 19th century. And no wonder: it brims over with drama, emotion and rich, ripe melodies that catch the ear and the imagination. Celso Antunes, replacing the previously advertised Pascal Rophé, makes his RTÉ NSO debut conducting it, together with Honegger's spirited Rugby which offers all the thrills and spills of a game in full flow, and Poulenc's celebratory, gloriously ebullient and joyous Gloria with the RTÉ Philharmonic Choir and Mullingar-born soprano Ailish Tynan replacing Mairéad Buicke.
