FATE KNOCKING AT THE DOOR
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
TWO MIGHTY AND MAJESTIC WORKS, GLORIOUS HYMNALS TO THE SACRED AND THE PROFANE, demonstrate the imaginative and emotional power of music to excite and to comfort.
With its tumultuous opening motif - famously described as 'thus fate knocks at the door' - Beethoven's Fifth Symphony is a masterpiece of propulsive energy that makes full use of a symphony orchestra at its most expressive.
Verdi's sublime Four Sacred Pieces combines unaccompanied voices and voices-and-orchestra (the RTE Philharmonic Choir) in moments of serene and breathtaking beauty.
