FROM POLAND WITH LOVE
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
BRILLIANT PIANO WRITING AND RAVISHING ORCHESTRAL ACCOMPANIMENT shot through with the vitality of traditional Polish dances are the hallmarks of the Second Piano Concerto by Chopin, Poland's greatest composer, with its haunting nocturne a soulful declaration of unrequited love.
Polish dances feature prominently, too, in Glinka's opera A Life for the Tsar and in Tchaikovsky's colourful and lyrical Third Symphony, where we hear a gracious waltz and a rousing polonaise.
