Celebrating Maestro Bamert's 70th birthday year, Khachaturian's sparkling violin concerto. The Armenian lyrical melody (which you'll be humming for days) that dominates the first movement and returns in the finale is unforgettable; and the explosive rhythmic energy of the outer movements is nicely balanced by the languorous and beautiful Andante - full of Eastern promise. The stricken tragedy of the 'Pathétique' - the last and most enigmatic of the Tchaikovsky symphonies - tells its own story.
