'Strings and piano, a sound scraped and a sound struck, do not sound well together. Whereas piano and winds, a sound struck and blown, do.' Stravinsky, conveniently ignoring the achievements of Mozart and Beethoven, but summing up the percussive power of his own startling hybrid! Orff, based on bawdy medieval texts, and popularised in the Old Spice TV ad, is very earthy too - but instantly recognisable and simply unforgettable.
