Celebrating The National Concert Hall's 30th Anniversary
* Mahler's 100th Anniversary*
Mendelssohn's virtuosic first piano concerto ushers in our new season to dazzling effect. The lone trumpet solo takes us to the world of Mahler's Fifth Symphony, the first of three concerts marking the 100th anniversary of the composer's death. This marvellous symphony with its progression of moods, beauty and terror leaves audiences enthralled. The Adagietto - famous for its use in Visconti's Death in Venice - is a 'love song' for Mahler's wife Alma that unfolds in one long breath. Hair-raising. Read what Alan says
