FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
It is always really special to hear a virtuoso crashing their way through the most extravagant cadenza in the piano concerto repertoire and the 2006 AXA RTÉ NSO Concerto Prize winner Kyu Yeon Kim has all the dash, flamboyance and daredevilry for Prokofiev's demands!
Outstanding Brazilian conductor Roberto Minczuk, making his Irish début this evening, opens with music with a Latin flavour by his fellow countryman Edino Krieger, and closes with the vast panorama of melody, powerful rhythm and yearning nostalgia that is Rachmaninov's 2nd Symphony. The famous Adagio, used as the melody for 'Never Gonna Fall in Love Again', must be one of the most beautiful themes Rachmaninov ever wrote.
