A housing complex for the elderly in Killester in Dublin has been badly damaged by a gas explosion.

The roof of the building at St Brigid's Court has been blown off and a gable wall has been damaged.

One man has been taken to hospital as a precaution.

Gardaí said the explosion was caused by a camping gas unit.

Some of the residents of the complex may be re-housed this evening.

Dublin City Council officials, staff from the Dangerous Buildings Department and the Dublin Fire Brigade are attending the scene.
