SNAPSHOT

The parliamentary constituency of North Antrim comprises all of Ballymena, Ballymoney and Moyle district councils.

It has a large Protestant majority and has been the bailiwick of Ian Paisley for more than thirty years.

TOMMIE'S TAKE

Paisley heartland. The DUP strategists are attempting to vote manage here, running four candidates in an effort to gain a fourth and extra seat.

The SDLP's Sean Farren is retiring - the party's candidates are Declan O'Loan, husband of the Police Ombudsman, and another of the new generation of SDLP members, Orla Black.

Outgoing Sinn Féin MLA, Philip Mc Guigan, stepped aside for personal reasons and the party is running just one candidate, Daithy McKay, in an effort to hold its 2003 seat.

Paul McGlinchey, brother of Dominic McGlinchey, is running here as an Independent and that could affect the Sinn Féin vote.

The Stormy History of Stormont

The history of the Northern Ireland Assembly dates back 35 years when the old Parliament of Northern Ireland was abolished.
