Gardaí investigating a gun attack on a 77-year-old woman in Monkstown in Dublin two days ago have arrested two people.

The two, aged 29 and 31, were detained following three searches and are being held at Dún Laoghaire Garda Station.

The woman was wounded in the leg by a gunman when she opened the door of her house on Thursday night.

The man was described as being of average height and he is believed to have worn dark clothing. Gardaí say he may have had a beard and wore a hat or hood.

It is not known what direction the man fled the scene.

The woman's injuries are said not to be life-threatening.
