A woman has died and another has been seriously injured in a road crash in Dublin.

The two women, both aged in their 40s, were struck by a car on the Hartstown road at around 2.40am.

Both were taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown.

One of the women was later pronounced dead, while the second woman is in a serious condition.

Three men in their 20s, who were in the car, were uninjured.

The driver was arrested at the scene and taken to Blanchardstown Garda Station on suspicion of drink driving.

He was later charged and released to appear before a sitting of Blanchardstown District Court later this month.
