Thousands of bodies are still believed to be trapped under the rubble of the twin towers of the world trade centre in New York. It will still be days before the final death toll is known but it could be more than ten thousand.

Hundreds of people have been admitted to hospital but it's believed thousands more may be buried under the rubble of the buildings. About 50,000 people worked in the twin towers of the World Trade Centre, both of which collapsed. More than 300 firefighters in New York are feared dead. Meanwhile, up to 800 people are believed to have died in the attack on the Pentagon in Washington
