6 questions for... Damien Tiernan

Damien Tiernan is RTÉ South-East Correspondent.
We asked him the following six questions:
Who/what will you be covering during the campaign?
Don't know yet but presume it will be stuff in the South-East and then for the election itself, one constituency, maybe Waterford.
Is it harder or easier to cover politics today compared to the past, and why?
Not easier, not harder, different yes. Why? Because in the past, everything was slower and deadlines were more spaced out. Now news is required the minute it happens, and definitely by the top of the hour.
The existence of TV3's 5:30pm slot means our One News is more important than in the past. And the demands for radio are greater than ever, with the competition in the market place. Online and Aertel demands mean this will accelerate.
What's your all-time favourite election moment?
Getting elected as class rep in second year in UCD Philosophy.
What's your earliest political memory?
Charlie Haughey's bus stopping in Newtownmountkennedy in Co Wicklow, where I lived when I was younger. I was only 9 or 10 and it was one of those elections in the early 1980s. And my mother taking me down to see him, and him shaking my hand. I was frightened of him as I thought he was very ugly.
Favourite political movie?
Spartacus.
Favourite political book?
The Ragged Trousered Philanthropist.
